What to Expect on Day One

Arrive 15 Minutes Early

Meet the coach, tour the facility, and get settled. Wear comfortable athletic clothing - we provide the Gi for the first class.

Warm-Up & Games

Classes start with movement games and stretching. Your child will be paired with students of similar age and experience.

Techniques & Fun

Learn basic positions, movements, and submissions in a safe, encouraging environment. Every class ends with positive reinforcement.

Kids can start competing from age 4 in IBJJF Mighty Mite divisions. Our coaches prepare every child at their own pace - competition builds confidence, discipline, and resilience.

What age can my child start BJJ? +

Children can start as young as 3. Our programs are divided by age: Apprentice (ages 3-4), Junior (ages 5-8), and Teens (ages 9-13). Each group has age-appropriate curriculum and instructors. What to expect at your child's first class →

Does my child need experience? +

No experience is needed. Everyone starts at white belt. Classes are structured so beginners learn alongside experienced students in a safe, supportive environment. Read: Do I need experience? →

How much does kids BJJ cost? +

Your child's first class is completely free - no commitment, no credit card. Come try it and see if BJJ is right for your child. We will discuss programs and pricing after the trial. Read more about the value of BJJ → | Contact us →

What should my child wear? +

Comfortable athletic clothing without zippers or pockets. We provide the Gi (uniform) for your child's trial class. Bring water and a towel. What to expect at your child's first class →

Can parents watch the class? +

Yes. We have a dedicated viewing area where parents can watch every class. Many parents find it helpful to see their child's progress firsthand. You are always welcome to stay and observe.

Is BJJ safe for my child? +

BJJ is one of the safest martial arts for children. Training is supervised, techniques are age-appropriate, and sparring is controlled. Kids learn to tap out (signal to stop) from day one.

How often should my child train? +

We recommend 2-3 times per week to see consistent progress. Classes run Monday through Saturday so you can find a schedule that works for your family.

How does the belt system work for kids? +

Kids belts have 5 colors (white, grey, yellow, orange, green), each with 3 variants (solid, white stripe, black stripe) for 15 levels of progression. See the full kids belt system →

Can my child compete in tournaments? +

How are belt promotions decided? +

Belt promotions are based on consistent attendance, technical growth, attitude, and mat time. There are no formal tests or fees. Coach Louis-Philippe evaluates each child individually. Learn about the kids belt system →

How do I sign my child up for a competition? +
